For generations, village miners have dug gem pits by hand. But in the regular tourist trade, big store owners make all the money while miners stay poor.
Rathnadeepa was created to change this. We bring visitors directly to legal family mines, pay miners directly, and help fund local schools and village healthcare.

Empowering Young Minds
Through our outreach initiative, we provide essential school supplies and daily necessities to children of mine worker families, helping to break the cycle of poverty and create opportunities for a brighter future.
Protecting Nature and Soil
When miners dig holes looking for gem gravel, the pits must never be left open. After every visit, the holes are carefully filled back with dirt and replanted so trees and gardens can grow again.
Teaching Young People the Craft
Gem cutting by hand is a traditional Sri Lankan art that is hundreds of years old. We help pay for young village students to learn how to cut and polish stones from master gem cutters.
Zero Commission and No Pressure
We are teachers and scientists, not sales people. We take zero commission from gem shops. You will never be pushed to buy anything on our tours.
